Marshall Islands: Roll in the coconut!

The coconut is a fruit export of the Marshall Islands. In Majuro, Marshall Islands atoll in the Pacific (where the capital is located, Dalap-Uliga-Darrit), a plant produces coconut oil for diesel engines. Witon Barry, deputy director of the Company Tobolar Copra says it smells good and can put his nose above the exhaust.
Jerry Kramer, the CEO of Pacific Inc. Company, a pioneer in the Marshalls in the use of green fuel, said: "The idea goes back to Rudolf Diesel. He had developed a combustion engine which turned the 'peanut oil. The German engineer unveiled his prototype at the Exposition Universelle of 1900 in Paris, predicting vegetable oils as a golden future as oil. So far, tests on vehicles were found fairly conclusive: some of our trucks run on coconut oil for years and we have not had a single problem for four or five years".
The price of coconut oil rose to 1,000 dollars per tonne against $ 550 a few years ago. January Cloin Energy Advisor with the Secretariat of the Applied Geoscience Commission Pacific Islands (SOPAC) located in Suva (the capital of Fiji), explains: "There is a strong demand for vegetable oils, it is huge from the States U.S. and Europe. "
The company Pacific International Inc. currently exports its production, but considering the applications of the oil in the region to provide electricity in remote islands in the area.

Soaring oil price affects the small Pacific islands because of their dependence vis-à-vis imports, the bursting of their geography and the massive use of generators for energy supply.
The disadvantage is that coconut oil is thick, a lack of tolerance for pure oil of new diesel engines sold, and it solidifies below 25 degrees and contains many impurities, if left untreated. In any case, a fuel exotic sun drenched!
The Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands, was the scene of atomic weapons tests conducted by the United States.
As of June 20, 1946, the Americans blew 66 atomic weapons and nuclear weapons.
The Republic of the Marshall Islands consists of 30 atolls and about 1,100 islands with a total of 181 km2 total area for a population of 63,174 inhabitants is independent of the United States since October 20, 1986.
