Uzbekistan: The gates of hell

In 1974 the Russian geologists are sent into the desert Kartum in the heart of Russia to explore the vast gas.

Near the town of Darvaza, Uzbekistan, they drill a hole and fall onto a huge underground cavern filled with gas. Lest this gas did not poisoning ambient air escaping, they decided to set it on fire.

For 37 years, the gas flames still unabated in the middle of nowhere and makes it look like this huge cavity in nature in the open.

The indigenous have dubbed "the hole from hell" because nobody knows when it will stop and no one seems interested.

And if it was really the true gateway to hell?
