China: Tanglu, unknown!

The Chinese village Tanglu in Shanxi Province in northeastern China is forced to change its name, or characters of its name, because it includes two rarely used Chinese characters, which can not be found in the new system police computer.

The characters "Tang" and "Lu" have been used for decades, but the inhabitants of Tanglu who tried to obtain a marriage certificate have encountered difficulties because the computers did not recognize their hometown listed on their card identity.

The system has also become a problem for those seeking employment, travelers or those who make real estate transactions.
Some villagers and experts believe that changing the name of the village is detrimental to their culture and customs, but police said it would be too expensive to modify computer programs.
